ISLAMABAD: With summer season at its peak, the Punjab government in Pakistan has taken several steps to promote local tourism in Murree, one of the most popular hill stations in the country.

This summer, Murree’s famous Mall Road is bustling with visitors, many of whom have travelled from different parts of the country to enjoy the cool weather and scenic beauty. With its rich colonial history and new tourist-friendly facilities, Murree is once again becoming a favourite destination for families and travel enthusiasts.

One of the prominent attractions is the photo gallery titled, “Murree Hills Through History 1853–2025”. Displayed on a wall along Mall Road, the gallery features old and recent photographs that showcase the town’s transformation over the decades.

Visitors have been stopping by to admire the black-and-white images of colonial buildings, vintage vehicles, and local traditions, reflecting on how far the hill station has come.
Modern amenities have also added to the charm. Electric sightseeing cars are now available on Mall Road, allowing tourists to explore the area without walking long distances. These eco-friendly cars are particularly helpful for families with young children or elderly members. Trolleys have also been introduced for older citizens who find it difficult to walk uphill.

Meanwhile, children seen enjoying their time on a large trampoline set up in the area; add a playful vibe to the scenic surroundings.

In a striking example of local fusion, a desi food outlet called Charsi Shinwari Tikka has opened on top of a well-known KFC restaurant. This unique combination reflects both traditional and modern food preferences, drawing in curious food lovers looking for a spicy treat or a quick meal after a long walk.

Nearby, the Holy Trinity Church, built in 1857, offers tourists a glimpse into Murree’s British-era architecture.

To assist tourists further, the government has established a Tourist Facilitation Centre and a Police Khidmat Markaz.

These centres help with information, safety, and assistance for any issues that may arise. Additionally, an Anti-Encroachment Counter has been set up by the District Administration Murree to keep public spaces clean and accessible.

These initiatives reflect a strong effort by the Punjab government to not only boost tourism but also ensure a safe, comfortable and enjoyable experience for all.
