UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Munir Akram engaged in discussions with the President of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, regarding the forthcoming observance of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia at the UN on March 15, according to a press release.

Details regarding the planned observance are currently being finalized.

In 2022, the 193-member Assembly passed a resolution, presented by Pakistan on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), designating March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

Ambassador Akram, upon introducing the resolution, stated its purpose was to foster a culture of tolerance and peace on a global scale.

The resolution received sponsorship from 57 OIC member states and eight additional countries, including China and Russia.   —APP
