JAKARTA: Multiple casualties have been reported as Israel attacked the Indonesia Hospital in Gaza, where thousands of displaced Palestinians are seeking shelter.

The Palestine health ministry stated on Friday that the Indonesia Hospital in Beit Lahiya, established in 2015 through donations from the Jakarta-based Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C), has been a crucial medical resource in Gaza.

The recent strikes have damaged some hospital facilities, causing numerous casualties, though the exact count remains uncertain due to the crowded conditions. MER-C estimates approximately 1,000 people are receiving treatment, with at least 5,000 seeking refuge in the hospital and additional thousands in nearby buildings.

The attacks on the hospital have elicited anger and sadness from Indonesians, who view health facilities as neutral and essential in crisis conditions.

Israeli airstrikes, targeting residential areas and hospitals, have resulted in significant casualties in Gaza, with widespread condemnation of these actions.

Deadly Israeli airstrikes targeting residential buildings, schools and hospitals since October 07 have resulted in a devastating toll, with a reported minimum of 11,078 casualties in Gaza. The majority of the victims are women and children, and tens of thousands more have been wounded. The fatalities include 195 doctors, paramedics, and nurses.

According to Rahung Nasution, an Indonesian filmmaker and activist, these airstrikes extend beyond the Indonesia Hospital, targeting medical facilities indiscriminately.

According to reports, more than one-third of buildings in Gaza have been either destroyed or damaged in these indiscriminate airstrikes.
