MOSCOW: Mufti of Russia Albir Krganov has urged religious leaders in Central Asian countries to play a more active role in assisting migrants both in Russia and before their arrival, to prevent any potential issues.

Currently, such collaborative efforts have not been established, and Mufti Krganov emphasized the importance of building meaningful interactions to ensure the well-being of migrants and avoid any offenses.

He urged religious leaders from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan to organize systematic efforts, similar to election campaigns, to engage with migrants. Krganov highlighted the importance of embassies being attentive to the issues faced by their citizens in Russia.

He expressed concern that without active collaboration, Russian authorities and local Muslim citizens may bear the consequences of challenges associated with migrants who fail to integrate into society.

In a related context, Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church, on December 20, expressed concerns about the actions of migrants posing threats to interreligious and interethnic harmony in Russia.

He warned of potential risks to Russia as a multinational state if the current influx of foreigners unwilling to integrate and respect traditions continues.
