LAHORE: Private schools and the chief executives of the District Education Authority of Sargodha have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to offer students entirely free education for at least ten years, along with free textbooks and uniforms.
High-quality education
Marryam Khan, the recently-appointed Sargodha Division Commissioner, assessed the enrollment levels and dropout rates at schools throughout the division. The officer hoped to contribute to the provision of accessible and high-quality education to children by involving the entire government and community.
She noticed that the subject area had improved due to collaboration with numerous stakeholders, particularly the association of private schools.
In light of this, the officer started a trial initiative at Bhakkar for enrolling underprivileged and out-of-school children in private schools. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Private Schools and the District Education Authority’s Chief Executive Officers.
The agreement guarantees additional support / academic counseling to students to ensure they catch up with the rest of the class, free books and uniforms for children for at least ten years, and free education.
The second phase was the project’s institutionalization to ensure continuity. Tehsil, District, and Divisional committees under the AC, DC, and Commissioner have been informed. The committees include representation from the District Education Authorities, Private School Associations, and parents of children.
