Pakistan’s M1 Motorway Closed for Traffic Due to Thick Fog

 ISLAMABAD: The authorities on Friday night closed down Motorway M-1 from Peshawar Toll Plaza to Rashkai due to thick fog.

The Motorway Police Advised:

The Motorway police have advised the commuters to avoid unnecessary travelling during foggy weather. Meanwhile, Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast cold and dry weather in most parts of the country. However, partly cloudy weather with light rain over the mountains is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Foggy conditions are likely to be in plain areas of Punjab during morning and night hours.

As per the synoptic situation, a shallow trough of a westerly wave is affecting the upper parts of the country.

 Thick fog

 There is heavy fog in different areas of Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Due to heavy fog, M1, from Peshawar Tall Plaza to Rishkai, has been closed to all traffic.

M1 Police request the public to avoid unnecessary travel in foggy weather. Motorway police have advised people to use fog lights in vehicles. Keeping a reasonable distance from other vehicles has been recommended to avoid accidents.

 Recorded temperatures

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met), a maximum of 7 degrees Celsius (°C) temperature was recorded in Islamabad, 11°C in Lahore, 18°C in Karachi, 7.5°C in Peshawar, 2°C in Quetta, and 3.5°C in Gilgit.

 Minimum recorded temperatures

Today’s Recorded Lowest Minimum Temperatures (°C): Leh -05, Ziarat, Skardu, and Gupis -04.
