KARACHI: A mother-son duo engaged in a series of armed robberies in Karachi was apprehended by local police on Thursday.
The suspects, identified as Aisha and Haris, residents of Keamari, were captured after snatching a purse at the Saylani signal. The Frere Hall police acted swiftly, arresting the culprits on Chaudhary Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road.
Police officials reported the recovery of a pistol, hashish, cash, and a motorbike from the possession of the arrested individuals. Aisha, during interrogation, was handed over to the woman police. The accused confessed to multiple robbery incidents in Karachi, revealing they had purchased the 9mm pistol for Rs 20,000 from Keamari.
The arrest sheds light on a spree of robberies in Karachi, with the suspects actively targeting citizens for the past seven months. The police registered a case against the duo under relevant sections of the law.
This incident follows a recent robbery in Gulshan-e-Maymar, where perpetrators disguised as Sindh police officers looted houses, taking away valuables such as gold, jewelry, mobile phones, and cash. The robbers, dressed in police uniforms, also confiscated CCTV footage from the targeted residences. Law enforcement, including the crime scene unit, police, and ranger officials, are actively investigating the incident.
The arrest of the mother-son duo underscores the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to curb criminal activities in the city and enhance the safety of its residents.
