MOSCOW: A massive fire in a sprawling shopping mall and entertainment center in the suburbs of northern Moscow killed one person on Friday.
Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement that firefighters are trying to put out the blaze the size of seven 7,000 sqm.
According to Russian media, the fire incident occurred at the Mega Khimki shopping center, about 7 km from Sheremetyevo airport in Mocapital of Russia.

Moscow building’s design hampers firefighters work
Over seventy firefighters and twenty firetrucks were working at the site but their work was hampered due to the building design, emergency services said in a statement.
Due to the collapse of the upper part of the building, the blaze soon spread to a large area.

Initially, the local media reported that arson was suspected in the incident but the state media tells a different story, saying safety laws in the building were not fully followed. –APP/AFP
