Moroccan Villagers Saved by Wedding Ceremony from Devastating Earthquake

KETTOU: A wedding ceremony has saved all the Moroccan villagers during Friday’s devastating earthquake, which raised their stone and mud houses while they were enjoying in an outdoor courtyard, Western media reported on Tuesday.

The wedding of Habiba Ajdir, 22, and farmer Mohammed Boudad, 30, was to take place in Kettou village on Saturday, however, according to local custom, the bride’s family organized a party the night before the wedding ceremony.

A video made by a guest showed the people enjoying the Music and suddenly a massive earth quake shook the land leaving people to darkness and screaming.

Mohammed Boudad told media that the tremor had overwhelmed him with fear. “We wanted to celebrate. Then the quake hit. I didn’t know whether to worry about her village or mine,” he said.

Morocco’s earthquake was the deadliest since 1960, killing more than 2,900 people, mostly in rural mountainous areas in south of Marrakech.

In the video, people scream and shout earthquake. The party was a traditional pre-wedding festivity arranged by the family of the bride before she was to leave the next day for the other house in Kettou.

People from villages around Ighil Ntalghoumt were invited to enjoy the celebration and a shared sumptuous meal.

Though the the people of Ighil Ntalghoumt were saved but they are in dire need of help as their houses have been destroyed by the earthquake forcing them to spend their day and nights in open area.
