WARSAW: A group of a hundred men from the Russian Wagner group have moved closer to the Belarusian city of Grodno close to the Polish border, Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki claimed on Saturday.

Poland has been concerned regarding the possible spillover of the war onto its soil ever since Russia attacked Ukraine in February 2022.

Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki said at a news conference in Gliwice, “The condition is getting increasingly hazardous … Most likely the Wagner men will be disguised as the Belarusian border guard and help unlawful migrants get to the Polish soil (and) destabilize Poland,”.

However, the Prime Minister did not provide the source of his information on the Wagner group movements.

Earlier, Poland started moving over 1,000 personnel to the east of the country amid increasing concerns that the presence of Wagner men in Belarus could lead to tension on its border.

Reuters reported that the development took place amid increasing concern in Poland that the presence of Wagner men in Belarus could lead to tension on its border.

The Russian President’s decision to offer men of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s Wagner group the option of relocating to Belarus has led to concerns among NATO countries that the fighters’ presence will cause instability in the region.

Poland has alleged Belarus of artificially creating a refugee crisis on the border since 2021 by traveling in people from Africa and Middle East and trying to push them across the border.
