BATKEN, Kyrgyzstan: A step toward resolving border issues, the co-chairs of the governmental delegations responsible for delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, Kamchybek Tashiev and Saimumin Yatimov, convened in Batken to assess progress and outline future tasks.
The co-chairs engaged in a comprehensive review of the outcomes of the topographic and law working groups throughout 2023. They underscored the need to intensify efforts to finalize the delineation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on sections that remain undefined.
Following the talks, the Chairmen of the State National Security Committees addressed the press and expressed optimism about the collaborative efforts between the two nations.
Tajik National Security Committee Chairman Saimumin Yatimov emphasized the common interests and goals shared by both states, focusing on safety and socio-economic development. He highlighted substantial achievements, stating, “We have progressed on more than 120 km, reaching important agreements on these issues. More than 90% of the common border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has been defined.”
Kyrgyz National Security Committee Chairman Kamchybek Tashiev acknowledged the significant progress made, with over 90% of the state border defined as a result of the intergovernmental commission’s work. He anticipated the signing of agreements on the defined sections in the near future. Tashiev outlined the remaining border sections where work is ongoing, including areas such as Kairagach, Kulundu, Maksat, Arka, Arka-1, Arka-2, Jany-Jer to Jiydelik. He expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts, stating, “I am grateful to the two commissions for a very good job we did today together.”
The co-chairs affirmed their commitment to the resolution of outstanding issues, expressing confidence in the near completion of demarcation and delimitation of the state border through continued cooperation and dialogue.
