BERLIN: Over 40% of Muslim men are facing racism in daily life in Germany, a study revealed on Tuesday. According to the latest research study published by the German Center for Integration and Migration Research in Berlin, about 41.2% of Muslim men are suffered by racism. Muslims frequently experience discrimination in public offices and dealing with officials in Germany including police.
Muslim men (39%) reported regarding more often experiences of racism and discrimination in the police, while about 51% referred to negative experiences in different public offices. Similarly Muslim women, 46% stated that they had often faced discrimination in offices in the European country. Germany’s health care system is also not free from discriminative attitude.
Over 40% Muslims in Germany Report Racism
“Discrimination occurs here in several places. For instance, people who are ethnically marked are given inferior appointments and their misery is less heard,” said the director of the German Center for Integration and Migration Research in Berlin, Frank Kalter.
Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also expressed concern over mounting anti-Muslim racism in the country since the start of the Gaza conflict on Oct. 7. German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that any assault on Muslims in Germany, for religious reasons, are “completely unacceptable,”.
“Around 5 million Muslims in the country have every right to be secured …,” the spokesperson said.
The Berlin-based Anti-Muslim Hate group warned last week of increasing anti-Muslim racism amid the escalating Palestine- Israel war in Gaza.
“We are observing an intensification of anti-Muslim discrimination in Germany. This is something we must all be concerned regarding and needs to be taken very seriously,” said Rima Hanano.
“We must not permit inhumane positions to be further normalized and thereby endanger social cohesion. All citizens must be protected from racist, threats and other inhumane violence,” she said.
There are a grave number of unreported anti-Muslim occurrences that have not yet been recorded or reported, for instance, this applies also to anti-Muslim hate speech on different social networks. CLAIM called for far-reaching steps to fight anti-Muslim racism and to defend those affected.
