ISLAMABAD: Monsoon rains are likely to enter Islamabad and other cities of Pakistan today, where above to normal rainfall will brought the mercury considerably down, officials said.

According to Director General of the Department of Meteorology Mehr Sahibzada Khan, the meteorological department has predicted monsoon rain at a few areas in the upper parts of the South Asian country during the upcoming 24 hours, saying, there is a possibility of rain at a few areas in North East Punjab and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and weather in Islamabad and adjacent areas.

He stated that Meteorological department had already issued the weather advisory and asking all relevant departments to make emergency arrangements in anticipation of potential floods and storm damage.

Mehr Sahibzada Khan stated the advisory warns of possible flooding in rivers located in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Kashmir, due to the likely heavy rains. Met Department has also directed all concerned department to take emergency steps to address any adverse effects caused by the changing weather conditions, he said.

Responding to a question, the DG said July will witness an impressive spell of downpour during present spell of monsoon, saying, the spell of rain will help in increasing the water levels at major reservoirs in the country.
