As monsoon season continues to batter the Himalayan nation, the toll on both human lives and infrastructure remains substantial. With the annual monsoon rains showing no signs of relenting, rescue and relief efforts are in full swing to mitigate the impact of this natural disaster.
Landslides disrupt transport
The devastating power of landslides, exacerbated by intense monsoon rain, has already claimed the life of at least one individual and disrupted major transportation routes. A significant highway linking Nepal’s capital with the southern plains is now impassable due to landslides, isolating communities and hindering the movement of essential supplies and services. The treacherous combination of unstable terrain and heavy rainfall has demonstrated once again the destructive potential of nature’s forces.
Rising death toll and missing persons
As monsoon rains continue their seasonal onslaught, the death toll has risen to a grim tally of 38 individuals, with the number expected to rise further as search and rescue operations persist. The catastrophic impact of landslides and floods is exemplified by the staggering count of missing persons, currently standing at 33. The home ministry, represented by Mana Acharya, conveys the urgency of this situation and the concerted efforts underway to locate and assist those in distress.
