ISLAMABAD: The Human Rights Ministry initiated an awareness campaign for the well-being of the capital’s senior citizens, on Friday.
Pakistan has implemented some excellent legislative measures to safeguard the rights of senior citizens.
The government passed the Islamabad Capital Territory Senior Citizen Bill, 2021, to create a fund for the dignity, welfare, and comfort of senior citizens living there to uphold its international obligations as a United Nations (UN) member.
The bill states, “It is the state’s responsibility to provide protection, either directly or through an institution created to provide financial support to senior citizens.”
The statement continued that every individual has an intrinsic right to a safe and comfortable place to live, a nutritious meal, appropriate clothing, physical and mental health care, leisure activities, stable employment, and respect. —APP
