LAHORE, Pakistan: Quetta Gladiators’ experienced fast bowler Mohammad Amir has opened up about his departure from the national team following the T20 World Cup 2024 held in the USA and the West Indies.

Speaking during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025), Amir pointed to a lack of communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after Pakistan’s exit at the group stage.

“Following the T20 World Cup, no one reached out to me, no one discussed the future, and for someone who understands the game, even a subtle message is enough. When you’re not part of the plan, you have to think for yourself,” said the 32-year-old, who took seven wickets in four matches during the tournament.

Personal sacrifices

He also spoke of the personal sacrifices made, adding, “I turned down a county contract to represent Pakistan at the World Cup. I ended up spending more than I earned—my trainer accompanied me, and I covered all his expenses personally.”

It is important to note that both Mohammad Amir and star all-rounder Imad Wasim were dropped from the national squad and have not been recalled since.

While Wasim officially retired from international cricket, Amir appears content to continue his career in global franchise leagues.

Amir has performed well for the Quetta Gladiators, claiming four wickets in three PSL appearances so far. The Gladiators are set to face Karachi Kings in their next fixture on 25 April.
