Mohammad Amir Becomes Second Pakistani To Take 400 T20 Wickets

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Aamir has joined an elite list of T20 bowlers by claiming his 400th wicket, becoming the second Pakistani and the fourth fastest in the format’s history to reach the milestone.

The milestone came in classic Aamir fashion, with a clever piece of bowling that broke a dangerous partnership and shifted momentum during a high-voltage Caribbean Premier League (CPL) clash.

Turning out for the Trinbago Knight Riders, Aamir reached the landmark by dismissing an in-form Fabien Allen, who was blazing away at 45 off 20 balls.

The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, once tottering at 77-5, were mounting a fierce recovery courtesy of Allen and Imad Wasim, until Amir struck gold.

Crafting a deceptive full delivery that lured Allen into a risky swing outside off, Aamir watched as the ball spiralled off the toe-end of the bat and safely into the hands of Darren Bravo at long-on.

With that wicket, Aamir not only halted the charge but sealed his status as one of the quickest in history to reach 400 T20 wickets, achieving the feat in just 343 matches.

Only three bowlers have reached the 400 mark faster, with Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan leading the list, and Wahab Riaz, the only other Pakistani on the elite list holding the record for the fastest pacer to the milestone (335 games).

Despite Aamir’s heroic breakthrough, Trinbago Knight Riders couldn’t quite script a perfect ending. Chasing a steep target, Colin Munro’s fiery 44 off 18 and a late surge from Kieron Pollard (43 off 28) kept the contest alive.

But Shamar Springer held his nerve in the final over, defending 14 runs to seal an eight-run win for the Falcons.
