Modi Urges G20 Finance Leaders to Work for Most Vulnerable People

BENGALURU: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged the policymakers of the Group of 20 (G20) leading economies to focus on helping the world’s most vulnerable people.

In a virtual address to the finance ministers, governors of central banks and other leaders attending the two-day meeting in Bengaluru, Modi said the participants represent the leadership of global economy at a time when the world is facing serious financial difficulties.

“It is up to you to ensure bringing back financial stability, gowth and confidence to the global economy”, Modi said.

He said that “we need to focus on the most vulnerable people”, as countries deal with a series of challenges in the aftermath of the Covid-19, including unsustainable conflict, inflation, debt, and eroding trust in international financial institutions.

The meetings in Bengaluru would discuss a wide range of issues including institutional reforms, digital currencies and payments, financial inclusion and climate change. However, broader problems like the Russia-Ukraine would be also included on the agenda.
