MUZAFFARABAD: The Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwar Haq, has denounced India’s actions on the anniversary of ‘Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir’ (Day of Exploitation of Kashmiris). He expressed solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He said that Kashmiris living on both sides of the Line of Control, as well as Pakistanis and Kashmiris abroad and in Pakistan, observe August 5 as a black day.
On August 5, 2019, the Modi-led Indian government revoked the special status of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to fulfill the agenda of Hindutva. Chaudhry Anwar Haq compared the Indian government’s discriminatory policies towards minority communities within India to the attempts to turn the Muslim majority in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir into a minority.
In his special message, the Prime Minister highlighted the dire situation in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which has been turned into a prison for the past four years. He pointed out the atrocities committed by the Indian occupation forces, including curtailment of basic human rights, imprisonment of Hurriyat leaders and journalists, and fake encounters resulting in the deaths of Kashmiri youths.
India’s Violations of International Agreements and Human Rights
Chaudhry Anwar Haq accused India of violating international agreements and human rights conventions and committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide, which is a violation of the Geneva Conventions. He emphasized that Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory, and India’s illegal actions cannot change its status, as it remains an unresolved issue on the agenda of the United Nations for seven decades.
The AJK Prime Minister called on the international community to pressure India to implement the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, which grant the Kashmiri people the right to self-determination. He praised the courage and determination of the people of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their continued struggle for self-determination, despite India’s oppressive actions.
Chaudhry Anwar Haq expressed gratitude to all countries, international organizations, human rights activists, and journalists who have raised their voices and exposed India’s human rights violations in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He assured that the people of Kashmir will persist in their struggle for self-determination and will never accept India’s illegal occupation.
