ISLAMABAD: Mobile services have been suspended in various parts of Pakistan to prevent any potential disturbances on Ashura. The Ministry of Interior has instructed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to suspend mobile services on 9th, 10th, and 11th Muharram. However, in the federal capital Islamabad, the disruption of mobile data internet service started from Thursday evening.
As per the schedule, on 9th Muharram, mobile services will remain blocked from 1 pm to 10 pm in sectors G6 and G7, while in Sector I-10 and nearby areas, the blockade will be in effect from 6 pm to 6 am on 10th Muharram.
On 11th Muharram, mobile phone services will remain blocked in Shah Allah Ditta from 2 am to 7 pm, and in the areas around Bari Imam and Noorpur Shahan, services would be blocked from 12 pm to 7 pm.
Mobile Phone Services in Provinces
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), mobile services will be blocked in fourteen districts, including Hassan Ghari, inner city Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohat, Sadar, Pishtakhara, Mardan, Hangu, and Bannu. These suspensions will be in effect until 10 pm.
Similarly, in Quetta, Balochistan, mobile services will remain blocked on 9th and 10th Muharram to ensure a peaceful environment. The provincial administration has already prohibited pillion riding in Quetta division from 1 to 12 Muharram.
Moreover, mobile services will also remain blocked in some parts of Karachi until the 10th, where the suspensions had started on 8th Muharram.
