ISLAMABAD: Member of the Pakistan National Assembly (MNA) from South Waziristan, Ali Wazir, has been ‘arrested’ again months after his release from Karachi jail, local media reported citing sources on Monday.

The reports suggested that the legislator is being detained in North Waziristan. It is not yet clear on what charges he has been detained.

The development followed the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime circle summoning Wazir and another MNA, Manzoor Pashteen over mutiny charges for their social media posts. In a notice, the FIA summoned Wazir, Pashteen, and three others to its Peshawar office on June 23.

Wazir was released from the Karachi Central Jail on February 14 after spending more than two years behind bars. He was arrested in Peshawar on December 16, 2020, in connection with a case registered against him at Sohrab Goth Police Station in Karachi on charges of sedition for delivering hate speeches against state institutions.

He was later arrested in more cases lodged on similar charges in Karachi and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
