MMA: Jamahal Hill Beats Glover Teixeira to Capture UFC light Heavyweight Title

RIO DE JANEIRO: Jamahal Hill defeated Glover Teixeira via a unanimous decision to capture the vacant UFC light heavyweight title.

Judges scored 50-44, 50-44, 50-44 in favour of Hill who dominated the five-round main-event contest of UFC 283 at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro. ‘Sweet Dreams’ landed 58% of his big hits to set a new division record for the most significant strikes in one fight. Meanwhile, Teixeira also showcased remarkable heart and tenacity as the 43-year-old veteran from Brazil fought to the final bell against the young and hungry haymaker.

Following the fight, Teixeira laid his gloves on the Octagon and announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.

Both Hill and Teixeira got an extra $50,000 each for their performance during the bloody battle that was declared “Fight of the Night.”

Moreno beats Figueiredo via TKO to become flyweight champion

In the co-main event, Brandon Moreno finally closed the door on his rivalry with Deiveson Figueiredo by winning his fourth fight against the Brazilian amid a third-round doctor’s stoppage and once again becoming the undisputed UFC flyweight champion.

The fight ended when the Mexican landed a nasty punch midway through the third round, leaving Figueiredo with significant swelling and a cut near his eye.

Elsewhere, Gilbert Burns submitted Neil Magny in Round One in their welterweight bout.

Meanwhile, Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Jessica Andrade smashed Lauren Murphy for three rounds to earn a one-sided decision. 

In another light heavyweight bout, Johnny Walker claimed a first-round knockout against Paul Craig by hammering him with vicious punches and hammer fists.
