CHITRAL: The body of missing Pakistani paraglider and renowned diver Asif Mahmood was recovered in Chitral on Friday, bringing an end to an extended search operation launched after he went missing following a paragliding accident in the mountainous Buni area.
Mahmood’s family confirmed his death, while police sources said the accident occurred on Thursday amid poor weather conditions. The difficult terrain and adverse weather hampered rescue efforts and made it challenging for teams to locate and recover him.
According to family members, Mahmood was paragliding in Buni when he met with the accident. Rescue teams and local authorities continued searching for him from the day of the incident, eventually locating his body on Friday.

Police sources said the remote and mountainous location posed significant challenges for the recovery operation. Further details surrounding the accident are being gathered, while the necessary legal and administrative formalities are expected to be completed before the body is handed over to the family for burial.
Mahmood, who originally belonged to Suraj Gali in the Khanpur area, was known for his involvement in adventure sports, particularly paragliding and diving. His death has triggered grief among his family members and those familiar with his work in Pakistan’s adventure sports community.
