ISLAMABAD/NEW ORLEANS: Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel has been named the winner of the 71st annual Miss Universe pageant.
Miss Venezuela Amanda Dudamel came in second, followed by Miss Dominican Republic Andreína Martínez.
India’s Harnaaz Sandhu, last year’s title holder, took to the stage and crowned Gabriel on Saturday night in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Gabriel first Miss USA to be crowned Miss Universe in 10 years
Gabriel is the first Miss USA to have been crowned the Miss Universe in 10 years. The last Miss USA who won the title was Olivia Culpo in 2012. Gabriel is also the first Filipino American to have won Miss USA.
Gabriel is a model, fashion designer, and sewing instructor from Houston, Texas. She is a graduate of the University of North Texas and a former high school volleyball player. The 28-year-old is also the CEO of her own sustainable clothing line, according to her Miss Universe bio.
