SINGAPORE: Miss Universe Singapore 2024 has announced that it will now welcome married women, mothers, and divorcees to compete in its annual beauty pageant, scheduled to take place in September this year. This decision marks a departure from previous criteria that limited participation to single women within certain age limits.
The move towards inclusivity aims to align the competition with its global aspirations and to provide a platform that embraces diversity and celebrates women in various stages of life. The Miss Universe Organisation recently abolished its upper age limit, reflecting a broader commitment to diversity and equality among its contestants worldwide.
For eligibility in the Singapore edition, contestants must be at least 18 years old, based in Singapore, and have resided there for a minimum of six months by September 1, 2024. Additionally, there is now a minimum height requirement of 1.68 meters, introduced for this year’s competition.
Miss Universe Singapore 2024 is jointly organized by Beyond Entity, a Malaysian company with extensive experience in pageantry, and King Kong Media Production, led by Singaporean actor Mark Lee. The pageant offers a top prize of $10,000 and the opportunity for the winner to represent Singapore at the international Miss Universe 2024 competition, scheduled to be held in Mexico this September.
Elaine Daly, the national director of Miss Universe Singapore and Miss Universe Malaysia 2003, expressed that the competition goes beyond beauty, serving as a platform for participants to advocate for causes they are passionate about and to potentially launch careers in acting, following in the footsteps of many accomplished actresses who began their journey as beauty queens.
“This competition is more than just a crown. It’s a platform to inspire and advocate for causes close to your heart,” Daly stated.
