LAHORE: Former Pakistani actress Mishi Khan has openly criticized superstar Fawad Khan for his decision to collaborate with Indian actress Vaani Kapoor in their upcoming film, “Abir Gulal.”

Filming for the project has reportedly begun in London and its surrounding areas, with production expected to continue through October and November. The film is anticipated to be released by late 2025 or early 2026. While fans are excited about the project, Mishi expressed her dissatisfaction on Instagram, stating that it is “unfortunate” for Fawad to pass on opportunities with A-list Pakistani actresses in favor of working with a lesser-known Indian actress.

Fawad Khan made his Bollywood debut in 2014 with “Khoobsurat” and last appeared in an Indian film in 2016’s “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.” Following increased tensions between India and Pakistan, Pakistani artists faced restrictions on working in Indian film industry.

The first look of the film has been unveiled, creating buzz among fans. According to media reports, filming is taking place at various locations in and around London. Director Aarti S. Bagdi described the film as exploring the journey of two individuals who unintentionally assist each other in healing, with love blossoming as an unexpected outcome.

Producers of Abir Gulal expressed their enthusiasm for the film project, stating, “Fawad has a massive global fan base, and we expect audiences and his fans to embrace this film, showcasing him in his most endearing role yet. The chemistry between Fawad and Vaani is anticipated to light up the screen with their captivating performances and undeniable charm.”

Co-produced by Vivek B. Agrawal, Avantika Hari, and Rakesh Sippy, production is set to continue in the UK throughout October and November, with the release expected by late 2025 or early 2026.

Fawad Khan’s last Bollywood film was ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (2016) before the ban on Pakistani artists in India due to rising tensions between the two nations.
