Ministerial Committee Assigned by Joint Arab-Islamic Summit Holds Meeting with Russian FM: SPA

MOSCOW: The Ministerial Committee assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit, headed by Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), held an official meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russia, Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

According to the SPA, members of the Ministerial Committee attended the meeting are the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Al-Safadi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine, Riad Malki, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, and the Secretary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hussein Ibrahim Taha.

The SPA reported that at the start of the meeting, Sergey Lavrov delivered a speech in which he lauded the efforts made by the ministerial committee assigned by the Arab-Islamic Summit towards a long-standing truce in Gaza.

He indicated that Russia stands with immediate truce efforts, in accordance with the resolutions of the UNSC and UNGA, as well as the decisions of the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh and the peace summit in Cairo.

He expressed Russia’s condemnation of the collective punishment against civilian population in Gaza, as they are deliberate violations of global humanitarian law, stressing the significance of moving towards ending all violations of global laws and global humanitarian law, with the significance of introducing more humanitarian help to the Gaza Strip to avert an unparalleled humanitarian crisis, the SPA maintained.

Sergey Lavrov expressed his country’s support for creating conditions to initiate a comprehensive peace process as per the relevant UN resolutions and the 2002 Arab Initiative with the aim of a two-state solution, the SPA reported.

According to the SPA, afterward, the members of the Ministerial Committee stressed the significance of members of the UNSC and the world taking effective and immediate steps for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing that this is a priority for all Arab and Islamic nations.

The members of the Ministerial Committee also pointed out the significance of lifting the siege imposed on Gaza immediately, releasing hostages and prisoners, and reactivating a serious and just peace process that enjoys the support of world’s legitimacy authorities, the SPA stated.

The SPA further reported that the members of the Ministerial Committee called on world to fulfill its duties and responsibility by rejecting all shapes of selectivity in applying world legal and moral standards and turning a blind eye to the terrible crimes carried out by the Israeli occupation troops against unarmed Palestinians, and the violations of the Israeli occupation forces against the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

On the occasion, the members of the Ministerial Committee also pointed out that the Israeli occupation’s continued violations of the international law, and non-compliance with global legitimacy resolutions, the latest of which was the UNSC resolution last week, weaken the legitimacy of the global system, the reliability of its defenders, and its capacity to maintain security, peace, and regional stability in the future, it also fuels the motives of violence and extremism.

The members of the Ministerial Committee also stressed the importance of permitting the delivery of humanitarian help, aid, water, food, fuel, and power to Gaza immediately, which is a legal and moral responsibility of the entire world, noting that depriving the people of the Gaza Strip of the basic needs of life is a clear violation of global humanitarian law, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention, and a transgression of all human principles and values, the SPA reported.
