ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized on Friday that the mining sector holds significant importance in the second phase of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
During a meeting with MRDL Saindak, a Chinese mining company operating in Chaghi Balochistan, the minister praised the company’s longstanding efforts to advance the mining sector in the resource-rich region of Balochistan.
Responding to the company’s request to include their latest project in CPEC, the minister advised them to prepare a proposal accordingly, as per a press release from the Planning Ministry.
Discussions during the meeting highlighted the potential reduction in operational costs for all mining projects in the province if their energy needs are met through the establishment of a national power grid.
The Saindak Copper-Gold Project in Balochistan, managed by MCCT Resources Development Company Pvt Ltd (MRDL), has proposed the establishment of a mineral industrial park in Pakistan. This park aims to facilitate copper/lead/zinc refining and deep processing, thereby adding more value to mineral products.
As more mining projects are developed, the feasibility of establishing such an industrial park increases. Additionally, the park is expected to attract investors interested in metal refineries and processing plants, leading to the production of wires, rods, plates, and other products.
Furthermore, the development of power supply, water supply, transportation, and other industries is anticipated to facilitate the operations of the industrial park.
