UN report

South Sudan Humanitarian Needs Overview report (2023) said that millions of people will confront the issue of food insecurity in the upcoming year in the country. The report said that currently, a third of 12.4 million people are facing severe food insecurity in South Sudan.

The UN report said that the conflict, violence, public health issues, climate change, floods and drought have complicated the situation in the country. The Humanitarian Coordinator, Sara Beysolow Nyanti appealed the government and authorities to ensure peace and to foster progress and development in order to reduce the need for humanitarian assistance. According to Arab news, the violence in South Sudan is posing a threat to a peace agreement that was inked in 2018.
