OUAGADOUGOU: Burkina Faso’s authorities on Tuesday lashed out at the “cowardice” of the militants following local and security sources said that at least 10 civilians were killed in the two assaults in the African country.
Residents of Nouna in Kossi province said that six people were killed and four wounded in an attack in the region. A security official also confirmed the assault on Nouna, saying “Rubbles of rockets were found in the locality”.
Militants Kill Ten in Burkina: Security Sources
A local official told the foreign media on the condition of anonymity that the same evening about 250 miles to the south, Tondoura, close to the border with Ivory Coast, also came under assault. He said militants attacked the village while several villagers, armed with guns, attempted to interfere but were rapidly overrun. He added four civilians were killed and several wounded in the attack.
Junta leader Captain Ibrahim Traore, who took power in a coup last year, condemned the militants for their “cowardice” and acknowledged “increasingly often attacks against the civilian population.”

Burkina Faso’s ruling military junta confronts an insurgency that swept in from neighboring Mali in 2015.
AFP reported that over 10,000 people including civilians, and security personnel have died in the wave of violence, while as many as two million people have been displaced in the African country.
