Mike Pence Admits Trump’s Conduct Around 2021 Capitol Attacks was not Criminal

WASHINGTON: Former US vice president and Republican presidential candidate Mike Pence has said that he felt Donald Trump’s actions and words leading up to the Capitol attack on Jan. 6 were irresponsible though not likely unlawful.

“While Trump’s words were irresponsible, based on what I recognize, I am not yet persuaded that they were criminal,” he told a US media outlet.

Earlier, former US President Trump said that he had received a letter saying he is a target of a jury investigation into efforts to downturn his 2020 presidential poll defeat.

Pence added that it should be left to the people of the US to determine whether or not former President Trump was responsible.

“Trump’s actions were irresponsible,” ex-US President said. He maintained: “I don’t fairly know what his intention was” on January 6, 2021.

Ahead of the 2021 Capitol assaults by Donald Trump supporters, he repeatedly criticized Pence for declining to try to stop Congress from confirming Biden’s win in the 2020 elections.

However, Pence said that Donald Trump was wrong in thinking the ex-vice president could downturn the result of the elections. Some rioters also chanted the slogans “Hang Mike Pence” during the Capitol attack.

Former President Trump was indicted in June on charges he illegally kept national security papers when he left the White House.
