MIANWALI: A devastating incident occurred in Mianwali, where seven individuals, including the well-known folksinger Sharafat Ali, lost their lives when the car they were traveling in plunged into a canal.
The ill-fated car, carrying seven people, met with tragedy near Paka Kanjhera in Mianwali. Sharafat Ali, the folksinger, was on his way home after attending a wedding when the accident occurred.
Rescue teams were promptly dispatched upon receiving the distressing news. Their swift response resulted in the recovery of both the victims and the submerged vehicle from the canal. The lifeless bodies were then transferred to DHQ Hospital.
This incident is a painful reminder of the dangers posed by the region’s water bodies, and the need for caution when working near them. Tragically, in a similar occurrence last August, four members of a family lost their lives while attempting to construct an embankment to store water for their fields near Gajoji village. Ghulam Rasool, along with his two daughters and daughter-in-law, were engaged in building an embankment when their tractor plunged into a seven-foot-deep ditch.
The victims of this heartbreaking incident included Ghulam Rasool, Jind Wadi Bibi (14 years old), Basheeran Bibi (16 years old), and Latifan Bibi (20 years old), all of whom tragically drowned. A dedicated rescue team was successful in recovering the bodies, which were then returned to the grieving family.
