MEXICO: Mexican authorities are preparing for the impact of Hurricane John, which has intensified into a Category 2 storm, according to the U.S.-based National Hurricane Center (NHC). The storm is expected to bring severe weather, including dangerous winds, storm surges, and flash flooding, as it nears the southern coastline.

The NHC warned that John’s center is forecast to move inland late Monday or early Tuesday, with winds already reaching speeds of 100 mph (155 km/h). The storm is expected to rapidly strengthen into a major hurricane before making landfall, prompting the Mexican government to issue hurricane warnings from Punta Maldonado to Acapulco along the Pacific coast.

Coastal regions, especially in the states of Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Guerrero, face significant risks of catastrophic flooding and mudslides. The NHC urged residents in these areas to finalize preparations to protect life and property, warning that the worst conditions could hit within 12 to 24 hours. Coastal flooding and severe damage are anticipated near the storm’s landfall.
