ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted pre-monsoon rains accompanied by dust thunderstorms in the central and upper parts of the country during the Eidul Azha holidays.
The Met Office stated that heat wave conditions would subside from June 25 as moist currents from the Arabian Sea penetrate the region, while a westerly wave is expected to enter on the same day.
According to the PMD, pre-monsoon rains with dust thunderstorms are predicted in the upper and central parts of the country from June 25 to June 30, with occasional breaks. The regions likely to experience rain or wind-thundershowers, including heavy falls, include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Swat, Peshawar, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and many others.
The weather advisory also mentioned the likelihood of rain with isolated heavy falls in various areas, such as Barkhan, Loralai, Sibbi, D I Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sukkur, Jacobabad, and Larkana, on different dates between June 26 and June 27.
Met Office Warns of Potential Urban Flooding During Eidul Adha
The PMD advised travelers, tourists, and farmers to exercise caution during this period and take necessary precautions based on the weather advisory. Additionally, the Met Office warned of potential urban flooding in low-lying areas of several cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore on June 26 and June 27. It also highlighted the risk of landslides in vulnerable areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to heavy rainfall.
The sighting of the Zil Hajj moon in Pakistan on June 19 confirmed that Eidul Azha would be celebrated on June 29 (Thursday). In light of the upcoming holidays, Pakistan Railways (PR) announced the operation of three special trains, with the first one departing from Quetta to Peshawar on June 26 at 10 am. Furthermore, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced a 10% reduction in domestic flight fares during the Eidul Adha holidays.
