Met Office Forecasts Cloudy Weather in Twin Cities

ISLAMABAD: The sky in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi is engulfed in clouds as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met) forecast mainly cloudy weather in most parts of the country.

The Met, in its recent forecast, predicted a likelihood of rain with snow over hills in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, upper/central Punjab, and Pothohar region. Hailstorm is also expected at a few places. Meanwhile, some places in upper K-P, Kashmir, and north Balochistan are also expected to receive heavy rainfall.

Minimum recorded temperatures in the country

The Met Office recorded the minimum temperature of -06 °C Celsius in Leh and -03 °C in Kalam. As per the synoptic situation, a westerly wave is affecting the western and upper parts of the country and may persist over the upper parts till Marchn 3.

Weather and air quality

As per the air quality index (AQI), the air quality in Lahore is 174 US AQI, 148 in Rawalpindi, 163 in Faisalabad, 90 in Muridke, and 87 in Mangla. In Sindh, the air quality in the provincial capital Karachi was recorded at 153 US AQI, while air quality in Islamabad stands at 81. In K-P, air quality is 161 in Peshawar and 88 in Abbottabad.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a maximum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius (°C) was recorded in Islamabad, 16°C in Lahore, 23°C in Karachi, 16°C in Peshawar, 8°C in Quetta, and 8°C in Gilgit.
