PARIS: Lionel Messi celebrated his return to Paris Saint-Germain with a goal in his first game since winning the World Cup for Argentina.

The 35-year-old resumed training in the new year after taking some time off to celebrate and recover after Qatar 2022, where he netted seven times and his team beat France in one of the greatest finals ever.

Messi returns

Messi didn’t seem to be suffering any hangover as he returned to action by scoring from close range in PSG’s 2-0 win against Angers on Wednesday.

Hugo Ekitike opened scoring before Messi added another to double PSG’s advantage. The Argentine forward finished off from Nordi Mukiele’s pass with the goal given following a video assistant referee check.

Messi pays tribute to Pelé

Messi also paid tribute to Brazilian legend Pelé as he joined his teammates in wearing a t-shirt with the late footballer’s face on it during the warmup before the match.

PSG is six points clear and comfortably sits at the top of the league after second-placed Lens could only draw 2-2 at Strasbourg.
