Mental Health Day: Lahore College For Women University Organises Walk

LAHORE: Applied Psychology Department of Lahore College for Women University celebrated the World Mental Health Day organizing whole day activities including a walk, discussions and poster competition.

World Mental Health Day is celebrated on 10th of October of every year globally in order to create awareness about mental disorders and health. The day started with the mental health awareness walk that was led by Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor of the university.

Poster competition with the theme “Good Mental Health at the Campus” was also held in which the students from different universities participated with their posters. While talking to the students Prof. Dr. Amina Muazzam, Chairperson Department of Applied Psychology, highlighted the importance of mental health and discussed the role of the department of psychology in promoting mental health.

A panel discussion on “How can we make Mental Health and Well-Being for all a Global Priority?” between students and teachers was an interesting part of the day where Prof. Dr. Mehmood Ayaz, Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical College, told the students about the ways to improve and take care of their mental health.

During the discussion students shared their mental pressures they face during their studies and in job hunting. They also talked about the burden of social pressures they carry on their backs during exams and job hunting. Teachers were of the view that with a healthy mind and positive approach towards life will help them to lead a bright future. The event concluded with distribution of trophies and certificates among chief guests and students. Some suggestions related to improving the mental health of students were also made during the discussions, which will be communicated for policy making.
