ISLAMABAD: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti, addressed the press at the party headquarters in Srinagar, urging the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir to exercise their voting rights judiciously. Mufti cautioned against the divisive tactics employed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and emphasized the need for vigilance against contentious laws like the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
Mufti accused the BJP of fostering communalism and exacerbating religious tensions, labeling laws such as the CAA as distractions from pressing issues like unemployment and inflation. She highlighted the repercussions of the CAA, including the demolition of mosques and targeted vilification of Muslims, urging citizens to remain calm and steadfast in the face of provocations.
The PDP president stressed the importance of peaceful protests, citing the significance of demonstrations like Shaheen Bagh in Delhi. Mufti expressed concern over the detention of numerous youth without bail and called on both Hindus and Muslims to refrain from falling prey to the BJP’s manipulative tactics.
Instead, she advocated for continued engagement in democratic processes and emphasized the power of voting as a means to challenge oppressive laws and policies.
