SRINAGAR: People’s Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that the Lieutenant Governor’s administration is bringing poverty and slums into Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir under the guise of housing people without homes to alter the region’s demographics.
She said that the LG announced gifting land to 1,995,000 persons who are landless in Jammu and Kashmor. However, the Indian government’s statistics presented in the Parliament claimed there are just 19,000 homeless families in the occupied region. It was raising questions and concerns about who these landless people in Jammu and Kashmir are, the Kashmir Media Service reported.
According to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY), the Jammu and Kashmir administration has begun giving landless families 150 square yard plots to build their homes.
Mufti said that it appears to be an effort to alter Jammu and Kashmir’s demographics to strengthen the BJP’s support base.
Mehbooba Mufti raises serious questions
She questioned that who are these two lakh families? She said that even with only five people per family, there are still 10 lakh people in the region.
