NICOSIA: Cypriot authorities have rescued 86 migrants after their boat had developed some technical fault in Mediterranean Sea, AFP reported on Sunday.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) of Cyprus said that during the successful operation 61 men, six women and 19 children brought safely to coast.
The rescued migrants will be shifted to a reception center near capital Nicosia.
Mediterranean Sea: 86 Migrants Rescued by Cyprus
A JRCC statement said marine police patrol boat and two speedboats were used in the rescue operation near Ayia Napa resort.
Local authorities have not given any details about the nationalities of those rescued or from where their boat was coming.
On August 15, Cypriot authorities also rescued 60 migrants in the same area.
According to local officials there has been a rise in the number of migrants coming by boats this year.

The Aliens and Immigration Unit has said most migrants are coming from Syria and their boats are normally detected off Cape Greco.
Cyprus, European Union (EU) member claims to be frontline country on the Mediterranean migrant path, with asylum-seekers making up 5 percent of the 915,000 people living in government-controlled areas of the island.
