ISLAMABAD/ASTANA: Fast-food giant McDonald’s has announced ceasing operations in Kazakhstan due to supply shortages.
“The chain of fast food restaurants under the management of the Food Solutions KZ limited liability company is halting work under the McDonald’s brand in Kazakhstan due to restrictions in supplies,” the company said in a statement.
Ukraine’s invasion had already compelled the fast-food chain to pull out of Russia, where its restaurants have reopened under a local brand called Vkusno i Tochka.
Ukraine Invasion instigated Mcdonald’s pull-out from Kazakhstan
McDonald’s did not specify the supply chain problems which caused it to halt operations in Kazakhstan. But its announcement followed an earlier report by Bloomberg news agency, according to which the fast food chain was “set to abandon the central Asian nation after disruptions triggered by the invasion of Ukraine left Kazakhstan without a substitute for Russian meat supplies.”
Mcdonald’s came to Kazakhstan six years ago in what was a landmark occasion in the central Asian country’s attempts to attract big brands.
The burger giant went on to open 24 outlets around the vast country.
