ISLAMABAD: In response Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s arrest in graft case, several celebrities have taken to social media and public platforms to express their support for the former prime minister, who was ousted from power through a no-confidence vote in April last year.
Following Khan’s arrest by the Rangers on the directives of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), numerous celebrity supporters have voiced their loyalty towards him. Some have shared their views on Instagram and Twitter, while others, like actors Mishi Khan and Maryam Nafees, have shown their support on the ground by participating in countrywide protests organized by the party.
Television and film actor Maya Ali expressed her disbelief on her Instagram Story, calling it “ridiculous to see our kaptaan (captain) in their hands” and labeling it a “Black Day for the nation.”
Actor Maryam Nafees took to her Instagram Story, stating that it is now time to test the people of Pakistan. She wrote, “Leader ka imtehan khatam, qaum ka imtehan shuru!” (The leader’s test has ended, and now is the time for the nation’s test).
Celebrities denounces Imran Khan’s arrest
Actor Adnan Siddiqui expressed his disappointment on Twitter, describing the incident as “shameful” and expressing shock at seeing a former prime minister being treated like a “petty criminal.” He criticized the ruling dispensation, stating that such scenes have never been witnessed in the history of the country and that power has gone to their heads.
Singer Annie Khalid took to Twitter to advocate for Khan, urging people to leave their homes and protest in support of the former premier. She wrote, “Please get out of your homes, guys. He is in jail for us. His entire political struggle comes down to today. He is telling us to fight for our constitutional rights, so please get out there and protest!”
Veteran actor Samina Peerzada called on the concerned authorities to release Khan “immediately” and questioned the direction the country is heading in, stating, “What are you doing, cruel people?”
Film star Shan Shahid shared a picture of the PTI chief and sought Allah’s blessings while expressing his support. He wrote, “Imran Khan is in the prayers of the nation.”
Renowned actor Saba Qamar Zaman expressed her frustration, stating that the current situation is “no longer habitable.”
Singer Annie Khalid called on all UK-based supporters of Khan to gather at the Pakistan High Commission at 1pm, as mentioned in her tweet.
In a video message shared on her Twitter handle, actor Mishi Khan expressed her disappointment, stating that the nation does not deserve a person like Khan. She captioned the video, saying, “I am so heartbroken and dejected. This should not have happened.”
