ISLAMABAD: Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called on both the government and opposition to set aside their differences in light of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
He urged the government to pause the constitutional amendment process and asked the opposition to delay planned protests, emphasizing that internal political strife should be put on hold for the sake of national unity during this important international gathering.
Addressing opposition parties, Maulana Fazl stated, “Differences should be forgotten until the SCO summit.” He also questioned the urgency behind the government’s push for constitutional changes, remarking, “We took nine months to prepare the 18th Amendment, yet now we’re expected to make edits within 24 hours.”
The JUI-F leader criticized the government’s weakened authority in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and highlighted the need for judicial reforms, urging that those involved in these reforms be brought to Parliament for thorough discussion. He lamented that his party’s influence was only sought for specific political ends.
Furthermore, Maulana Fazlur Rehman addressed the Israel-Palestine conflict, calling for the Muslim Ummah to unite against Israeli “state terrorism” and demanding actionable steps from Muslim nations to protect Palestinian rights.
