DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has accused the Supreme Court of pressuring politicians to unite rather than promoting unity within the political sphere.
His statement comes amidst a call for talks between opposition political parties and the ruling alliance, which is trying to convince Maulana Fazl to hold talks with PTI Chief Imran Khan.
The Supreme Court had also asked the government to hold talks with Khan on elections. However, Fazl has stated that he does not agree with the reasoning and philosophy behind holding talks with someone who bankrupted Pakistan.
He also asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) not to show any weakness in court.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman accuses Chief Justice of imposing “judicial martial law
In a fiery press conference against the Supreme Court, Fazl had previously accused the Chief Justice of Pakistan of creating a “judicial martial law” situation in the country by usurping the powers of the ECP, Parliament, and the government.
He had also accused the Chief Justice of meddling with the appointment of the apex court’s registrar, a task that the government is supposed to carry out.
Fazl has summoned an important emergency meeting of his party’s central committee on April 26 to discuss the current political situation and determine the party’s position in light of it.
The meeting will also address the peace and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal districts, as well as plan for the upcoming national and provincial assembly elections.
The JUI-F president has also urged the Supreme Court to respect the Parliament’s resolution regarding the release of funds for the Punjab elections and asked politicians to tell the court respectfully that they trust it.
He has stated that the Supreme Court, rather than uniting, is pressuring politicians to unite, and that this is a matter of concern and shock.
