MOSCOW: A drone attack caused a huge fire at a fuel depot in Sevastopol, the main port in Crimea, on Saturday, according to authorities.
The city is home to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet and has been hit by several drone attacks since Russia launched its Ukraine offensive last year.
The Moscow-appointed governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhayev, said on Telegram that “a fuel reserve is on fire in the Kazachya Bay district… According to initial information, it was caused by a drone strike”.
Situation under control after fire
The size of the fire was about 1,000 square metres. Razvozhayev said no one was hurt and that authorities had the situation under control.
Earlier this week, Russia said it had “repelled” a drone attack on the port. Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
