LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Fawad Chaudhry has claimed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior vice president Maryam Nawaz Sharif wants to see Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif getting disqualified.
Chaudhry made the claim during a press conference in Lahore on Thursday.
Chaudhry criticized the incumbent government for tabling a resolution against the Supreme Court’s ruling, saying that the decision would not be changed by doing so.
He also accused the government of not being willing to contest elections and taking away the people’s right to vote.
“The constitution states that elections should be held within 90 days after the dissolution of assembly. But the government is not following the constitution of the country. The rulers believe they should take away the right of the people to vote,” Chaudhry said.
He stressed the need to get out of the political turmoil in order to resolve the country’s economic woes.
Fawad Chaudhry asks Nawaz Sharif to return national wealth
Chaudhry also took a dig at PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, asking him to “return the national wealth” before moving wherever he wanted.
Chaudhry criticized Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for talking about martial law and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for his statements about the country’s constitution.
“One should not take Rana Sanaullah’s statement as serious when he talks about the constitution,” Chaudhry said.
The PTI leader’s claims about Maryam Nawaz wanting PM Shehbaz Sharif disqualified have yet to be substantiated by any evidence.
The PML-N has not yet responded to the allegations.
