LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Saturday criticized the PTI chief for hiring a British advocate for the legal battle against “unlawful detention and human rights abuses.”

Maryam Nawaz, who mostly leaves no stone unturned to criticize her political rival, termed the move taken by the PTI Chief as double standards, adding that the PTI head had picked a person for his legal battle who once remained a lawyer of Salman Rushdie.

According to media reports, the PTI Chairman hired the services of British barrister Geoffrey Robertson to represent him in the international courts.

Meanwhile, the decision to hire Robertson has been confirmed by the party on its twitter account, where it shared a screenshot of a post by the Doughty Street Chambers – a set of barristers’ chambers based in the UK.

UK Barrister Withdraws as PTI Lawyer

However, according to the latest media reports, the Doughty Street Chambers has deleted the tweet saying that the services of the lawyer have been withdrawn at the request of PTI officials.

The PTI Chief and former Prime Minister Imran Khan is imprisoned in the Attock jail in the cypher case.

Earlier the other day, Islamabad High Court (IHC) had reversed the previous decision of his conviction in the Toshakhana case; however, he was arrested in the cypher case in which he is on judicial remand till Sept 13.
