ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President and Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz has accused the Supreme Court judges of being a part of a conspiracy against her party.
This statement came after the Supreme Court declared the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) March 22 decision on the Punjab elections null and void.
In a tweet, Maryam Nawaz Sharif claimed that the verdict was beginning to rewrite the constitution and that the Punjab government had been presented to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on a plate. She also accused the Supreme Court of taking responsibility for doing what the former chief justice (CJ) Saqib Nisar, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, and former GD ISI Faiz Hameed did in 2018.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif also alleged that the majority of the Supreme Court judges had opposed the facilitation done through a ‘one man show’. She urged the parliament to make efforts to halt this facilitation of PTI through legal and constitutional ways.
Supreme Court declares ECP’s order null and void
The Supreme Court (SC) declared the ECP’s order postponing the Punjab provincial assembly elections until October 8 as “unconstitutional” and ordered the federal government to release Rs21 billion in funds for elections in Punjab by April 10.
PTI has hailed the verdict as a victory for democracy, while PML-N has criticized it as being politically motivated. The two parties have been at odds with each other for years, and this latest incident is likely to further fuel their animosity.
In conclusion, Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s statement accusing the Supreme Court judges of conspiring against her party is likely to escalate the tensions between PML-N and PTI. It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold and whether the parliament will take any action to address Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s concerns.
