ISLAMABAD: Youngsters of twin cities have been showing a high level of interest in martial arts to gain physical and mental health, as well as learn an added skill of self-defence.
Talking to APP, Martial Arts Trainer Irfan Bhatti said that people were learning learn martial arts due to four reasons that were fitness, sports, career opportunities and personal safety.
He said martial arts involved a lot of physical activity, such as striking, grappling, and cardio training which helps improve overall fitness level as well as in gaining strength, endurance, and flexibility.
He added that individuals were learning different martial arts, such as Ninjitsu, Karate, Mix Martial Arts (MMA), and Taekwondo to participate in different competitions at both the national and international level.

Bhatti said that training in martial arts was also helpful in developing discipline, focus, and mental toughness, all of which were also important for other sports. He said martial arts were also helpful in career opportunities and that many professions, such as law enforcement, security, and military, required training in martial arts.
He said self-defence was highly helpful to an individual against a threatening situation. It trained the mind to defend oneself rather than cowering and fleeing, he added.
He highlighted that Islamabad Capital Police had also started Self Defence course that offers combat skills and weapon handling. He added that private schools were also arranging martial arts classes for their students, which is enabling them to learn self-defence as well as remain physically fit.
Bhatti urged the parents and teachers to motivate the children towards positive sports activities.
