Islamabad, Pakistan: Construction has begun on the Marka-e-Haq (Monument of Truth) in Islamabad’s Sector H-8, a project designed to commemorate the bravery of Pakistan’s armed forces and the sacrifices of those who fought in the May 2025 clashes with India.
The monument is being built inside Pakistan Movement Park, long regarded as a space dedicated to historical memory and national identity. Officials say the new landmark will not only serve as a tribute to the fallen but also redefine the park as a hub of cultural and patriotic remembrance.
The project is being developed by the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), after the Capital Development Authority (CDA) formally handed over the site. It is being supervised under the guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with federal funds allocated for timely completion.
A CDA official said the aim was clear: “The main purpose is to commemorate the martyrs and honour the veterans of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.”
Pakistan Movement Park and Marka-e-Haq Monument
Locals told WE News English that the Pakistan Movement Park, built by the CDA in 2022 on a green belt along Islamabad Highway in Sector H-8, was envisioned as more than just a recreational space — it’s a place where history meets imagination.
The park features a walk-through museum, along with 2D and 3D mural walls, vividly capturing Pakistan’s journey from inception to independence. A powerful depiction of the Great Migration aims to instill historical consciousness among the youth.
Now, with the addition of the Marka-e-Haq Monument, parents believe the park is becoming a living classroom.
Lalarukh Farooq, a mother, said the area is surrounded by educational institutions, making the park an ideal site for students to engage with national history – from the Independence movement to heroic episodes like Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, where Pakistan’s Armed Forces famously downed seven Indian jets.
“My son Ibrahim studies next to this monument. I’ve already told him about its importance. I hope all children come here to learn about our past,” she shared.
Kashif Abbasi, father of a second grader at a nearby school, said: “The Marka-e-Haq Monument will teach our youth about the sacrifices of our forefathers and the bravery of our armed forces. It’s time our children connect with the spirit that built this nation.”
Symbolism and design
While the full design remains undisclosed, insiders reveal the monument will feature a model of an “unbreakable wall”, symbolising Pakistan’s impregnable defence system along with other architectural elements evoking resilience, unity, and patriotism.
Heavy machinery and cranes were seen at the site early this week, beginning earthworks and dismantling existing structures to make way for the new landmark. The tallest flagpole in the park is expected to remain, though it may be repositioned for prominence.
Restoring Movement Park
The project also includes renovations to the Pakistan Movement Park, which had fallen into neglect with faded murals, incomplete boundary walls, and damaged displays. These are now being restored and upgraded, with new pictorial and structural features highlighting the country’s history and heritage.
National symbolism
Supporters say the Marka-e-Haq Monument will become a powerful symbol of patriotism, sacrifice, and sovereignty, inspiring future generations. “It reflects our unwavering resolve to safeguard the nation,” one official told local media.
